Un grande problema per chi, come me osserva da Milano, è l'inquinamento
luminoso. Gran parte della luce dispersa è dovuta alle lampade al Sodio per
l'illuminazione stradale, emittenti luce nel giallo.
A big problem for who, as I do, is observing from a big city, is the light
pollution. Most of light dispersion is due to Sodium Lamps used for streets
lighting, emitting yellow light.
Tali lampade si dividono in due categorie: "ad alta pressione" e
"a bassa pressione".
These lamps are divided in two categories: "High Pressure" and
"Low Pressure".
In questa pagina voglio presentare un confronto tra due filtri utili a
ridurre tale luce disturbante: il filtro Kodak
"Wratten 80A" e il filtro
Baader Planetarium "Violett Multiband Filter" conosciuto anche come
"Moon & SkyGlow Filter".
In this page I like to show a comparison between two filters used to reduce
that disturbing light: the Kodak "Wratten
80A" and the Baader
Planetarium "Violett Multiband Filter" also known as "Moon
& SkyGlow Filter".

Here below you can see the emission spectrum of High Pressure Sodium lamps.
These lamps are characterized by yellow-orange light. The picture below is taken
from a Osram catalogue.
Qui sotto puoi vedere lo spettro di emissione delle lampade al Sodio a bassa
pressione. Sono caratterizzate dalla luce gialla monocromatica. In realtà lo
spettro è formato da due linee vicinissime. La figura qui sotto è tratta da un
catalogo Osram.
Here below you can see the emission spectrum of Low Pressure Sodium lamps.
These lamps are characterized by monochromatic yellow light. In fact the
spectrum is composed by two very close lines. The picture below is taken from a
Osram catalogue.
Qui sotto puoi vedere lo spettro di trasmissione del filtro Baader
Planetarium "Moon & SkyGlow Filter". Si può notare come tale
filtro assorba molto la zona di emissione delle lampade al Sodio a bassa
pressione. La figura qui sotto è tratta dal sito della Baader Planetarium.
Here below you can see the transmission spectrum of Baader
Planetarium "Moon & SkyGlow Filter". You can notice that that
filter absorbs very much the emission of Low Pressure Sodium lamps. The picture
below is taken from Baader Planetarium website.

sinistra è l'80A e a destra è lo SkyGlow.

Preciso che tale immagine è stata deliberatamente ripresa in una serata in cui il cielo era
nuvoloso e quindi diffondeva maggiormente la luce. Il cielo era illuminato da
lampade al Sodio ad alta pressione, non monocromatiche, e quindi più
difficilmente filtrabili.
I'd like to specify that this picture was deliberatly taken in a cloudy
night and then scattered more the light. The sky was lighted by High Pressure
Sodium lamps, emitting non-monochromatic light, and then more difficult to
filter.
Come si può vedere i due filtri, con le lampade al Sodio ad alta pressione,
sostanzialmente si equivalgono. Probabilmente con le lampade al Sodio a bassa
pressione il filtro SkyGlow riesce a filtrare meglio la luce gialla.
As you can see, the two filters with High Pressure Sodium lamps substantially
come to the same thing. Probably with Low Pressure Sodium lamps the SkyGlow
filter works better.
